  1. Goals and objectives
    Three Elements Adventure Race Summer 2009 is the first in Three Elements Club racing series. The goal of the race is popularization and development of dynamic extreme team sport in Russia, racer's training for participation in difficult expedition races, determination of the strongest Russian multisport teams. Three Elements Club racing series propagandizes healthy and active life-style.

  2. Date and place, accommodation
    Three Elements Adventure Race Summer 2009 takes place in Pitkyaranta District, Karelia Republic on July 3 - 5, 2009. Start and base camp of the race is at the tourist center “Three Elements”. Team accommodation is in a tent camp. Cabins on the tourist center territory are available for renting.

  12. Race format and disciplines.

    This is a non-stop adventure race without assistants. Team composition: team of 4 (at least one woman) and team of 2 (any gender). Participants must be at least 18 years old at the time of the race.
    Approximate race distance: 160 km. Expected leader's time: 24 h.
    Control time limit: 48 h.
    Some of the legs have cut-off time after which, the teams are not allowed to the next leg and have to end the race. The cut-off times for the legs are indicated in the legend. The exact information about possible route short-cuts time is announced at Teams briefing.
    The final order and distance of the legs will be announced on the briefing on July 3rd, 2009.

    The teams start the race with the interval of 1 minute.

  13. Maps.
    Teams receive the maps prepared based on topographic maps of area in scale 1:50 000 (500m in 1cm). The maps of orienteering leg are distributed at the start of the leg. All check points are printed in the maps.

  14. Check points
    • 6.1. Marking at check points
      Check points are equipped with white and red flag and electronic station. Electronic chip will be fixed on wrist of each participant and sealed in order to prevent separation of the team members. Its will not hinder in changing clothes or taking off/putting on gloves. Broken seal or loss of the chip leads to the team disqualification. Each member of the team should mark at the check point. In exceptional situations, the GPS track / photo can be used as a proof for visiting a check point. Participants should inform the nearest judges about non-working or otherwise damaged check point.

    • 6.2. Check points
      Check points are tied up to the well-defined orienting points and are well-visible from 10 meters distance (if the legend doesn't indicate anything else). The sample of check point will be set at the start. It is obligatory to take all check points in the order, stated by the legend. The race organizers can check mandatory equipment at some of the check points.

    • 6.3. Cut-offs
      The race design is planned in a way that allows to avoid queues and the need for time cut-offs. This rules do not suppose any cut-offs during the race.


  15. Teams
    Teams may consist of 4 or 2 participants and their results are rated separately.
    Teams of 4
    Each team should have at least one woman. Each member has to reach the age of 18 by the time of the race (July 3, 2009) and sign an agreement relieving organizers of responsibility for his/her life and health. Each team should have a captain, who registers the team, corresponds with the organization committee and represents the team before the organizers, judges and press.
    Teams of 2
    Team should have 2 members of any gender. Each member has to reach the age of 18 by the time of the race (July 3, 2009) and sign an agreement relieving organizers of responsibility for his/her life and health.     Requirements for teams and team members:
    • Each participant should closely read the present Rules;
    • Each participant should have necessary physical training, sufficient for active movement during 48 hours;
    • It's obligatory to realize all risks, connected with the participation in the race;
    • Participation in race means complete and implicit acceptance of the Rules
    • Registration confirms the following: team members are aware of their own state of health and individual exercise limits and have all necessary technical skills for taking part in the race legs.
    • Organizers are free from any material, civil or criminal responsibility in case of body or material injury, occurred during the race;
    • Competitors realize that the race distance is potentially unsafe in technical, natural and climatic sense.


  16. Equipment
    Mandatory equipment for each leg. In case of lack of mandatory equipment the organizers have the right to forbid the team to participate in the leg. The presence of mandatory equipment will be checked during the race.

  17. Registration
    Online registration on website http://www.adventureraces.ru/. The official registration is open from April 25th till June 25th, 2009. The entrance fee should be paid on July 3rd during the final team registration in the base camp. The entrance fee - 1000 rubles per participant (no matter which type of team).

  18. Financing
    The race is financed at the cost of the organizer, sponsors and entrance fees. The participants and their supporting organizations bear all costs related to travelling, food and entrance fee. Teams may take part in the race under the official name of their sponsors. The names of teams will be published in mass media.

  19. Safety
    Each team HAS TO have a turned-off charged mobile phone to contact the panel of judges in case of emergency. The organizing committee reserves the right to stop the team on the distance if the physical condition of team member causes concern and can damage health of participants. The phone number for safety communication with the organizers will be indicated in the legend.
    The incomplete teams can not continue the race.
    The safety during the race is realised by the officers of the North-West of Russia search-and-rescue detachment of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

  20. Responsibilities of race participants
    The responsibility of competitors includes strict following the race Rules. Team or its member, dropped out of the race, should contact with the organizers as soon as possible, return to the base camp and return the electronic chips. ATTENTION! The organizers are not responsible for participants’ equipment left along the distance.

  21. Disqualification
    Team can be disqualified for the following:
    - Using transport not specified in the rules.
    - Lack of mandatory equipment at start or during the race.
    - Broken electronic chip seal.
    - Breach of sport ethics (not rendering assistance to an injured person, preventing other teams from reaching the finish, check point removal and etc.).

  22. Determination of the winners
    The winners are determined based on the least time on the distance under conditions that all members of the team have marked at all the check points in pre-determined order.
    Protests can be entered not later than in 30 minutes after publication of preliminary results with reference to breaching point of these Rules. The chief arbitrator settles all questions concerning the race results and all controversial points. In case of disagreement with the chief arbitrator 's decision, sportsmen can address to the appeal to the organization committee. Ranking:
    - Results are ranked separately for teams of 4 and teams of 2.
    - The teams, who completed the race in full number of members and marked at check-points in pre-determined order, are ranked first in accordance with their time on the distance
    - Then follow the teams, who completed the race in full number of members and did not go through all the legs, ranked in order of decrease of the passed part of the distance.

  23. Awards.
    The teams which take 1-3 places are awarded in each of two classes. They receive medals and prizes from the race organizers and the sponsors.
    All teams taking part in the race receive the official certificate.

  24. Environmental rules.
    The organizers have the right to disqualify the teams acting roughly and carelessly towards the nature. It's necessary to take all garbage to the base camp or waste-bins in settlements.

  25. Sport ethics.
    It's determined by the rules that the teams should respect the other teams. In case of critical situation, the teams should help each other, irrespective of the race results. The human mutual aid is appreciated higher than sport results by the race Rules.

  26. Spectators.
    Spectators and mass media are welcome for the race start, transition areas and finish zone. The race rules allow only moral support of the teams. The team can be disqualified for the outside assistance.
    In order to maximize race popularization, the organizers have the right to allow mass media to communicate with teams during the race. The mass media can ask teams questions at the start, on the route, in transition areas and at the finish zone.

  27. Sponsor recognition.
    The logos of the sponsors and organizers should be placed in accordance to the special scheme described during the registration.
    The logos of team sponsors can be placed only in places free from the logos of the sponsors and organizers.
    During the race all participants should wear sleeveless sports shirts with numbers, received from the organizers. The shirts with numbers should be always over the other clothes.
